From Mother Pippa 7.23.2024

We are getting new roofs! This spring, Father Ryan noticed that our roofs were damaged from hail, and worked with the insurance company to secure a $117,385 payment which would cover the tear off and replacement of a shingle roof. This roof would likely last 15-20 years. Thanks to the work of Father Ryan and the roofing team, however, we have another opportunity.
One N Done is an Amish roofing company that does excellent work installing metal roofs. We received two bids for the metal roof replacement, and One N Done bid us at $161,500. The other bid was for $306,000. This roof would last for 50 years, and likely only need to be repainted at that point in time. They additionally guarantee that the Chapel roof would no longer leak.
We want to replace the roof now because we expect that insurance rates will go up in the coming years and the coverage will shrink. We also expect that the materials for roofs will increase.
Last fall we raised $5224 for work on the Chapel roof. Between insurance and this fundraiser, it means that a metal roof would cost the church approximately $40,000. Thanks to your generosity, we have fully funded the difference. The work should begin in mid-August.
Thank you to Father Ryan, the Roof Team, and the Vestry for all your hard work. You are setting St. Mary’s on a secure footing for generations to come.

I hope you will stop by our booth at Derby Days this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to buy a root beer float. Thanks to Azuri for securing a generous donation from Sprecher’s of 504 cans of root beer. Thanks to our 20 volunteers for set up, serving, selling and running to make this a success!

Finally, please mark your calendars:
