Spring has fully sprung and we are ready to get to cleaning! While our wonderful cleaners are managing our general tidiness, Sunday we are polishing pews and vacuuming seats for our Annual Clean Up Day! If you can stay and polish a pew or two, the whole church will be sparkling in time for the birthday of the Church – Pentecost.
May 28 is Memorial Day weekend, but it is also Pentecost. If you would like to sign up to read Acts 2:1-21 in another language, or celebrate a graduate, Sunday is your last chance. Additionally, I will be ordering t-shirts on Monday so get your orders in!
Sunday we are celebrating Jesus’ ascension into heaven. Since Ascension falls forty days after Easter, the official feast day is always a Thursday. We are using the readings for Ascension Day as we think about that transition so many years ago from a God who walked with us and taught us, to having God within each one of us. Jesus tells the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit to arrive, which in turn will mark the beginning of a new phase of God’s work in the world.
In two weeks we are celebrating St. Mary’s Day, specifically, Mary’s Visitation to Elizabeth. I hope you will bring a dish to share as we celebrate the community between these two saints, and the community we share at St. Mary’s. Weather permitting, we will have bubbles and lawn games following both services.
We are serving a meal on Thursday, May 25 to the Family Promise clients. If you have interest in cooking once a month (or less) please let me know. We have three slots for cooks each month, and I look forward to this opportunity for direct ministry and community.
Prayers and Blessings,
Mother Pippa
