This Sunday is our monthly Potluck Coffee Hour. Thank you to everyone who is bringing a dish to share and to the Vestry for set up and clean up!
Have you ever received or gifted a prayer shawl? The St. Mary’s Prayer Shawl team knits and crochets at home and at church to keep us stocked with prayer shawls. These are meant to be tangible signs of our prayers for people when they are going through an illness, tragedy or challenge in their lives. And we need your help. The Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Mary’s is so dedicated that they have knit all their yarn into shawls. There is currently a sale that could help them resupply. Each prayer shawl takes three skeins of yarn, and so the cost for each shawl is about $25. Can you sponsor a shawl or two? Thank you for your support! If you’d like to join the team, they meet on second Sundays after the 10 a.m. service.
In addition to the St. Mary’s formation options for Lent, we have been invited by Emmanuel UCC to their Lenten program. They meet Thursdays at 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. Soup is served a half hour before each discussion group. They are reading the book Turning Over Tables by Kathy Escobar. This book guides readers on a Lenten journey inspired by the ways of Jesus to dismantle the systems that perpetuate inequality and injustice. From flipping the moneychangers’ tables in the temple to uplifting the poor and marginalized, Jesus’ actions and words turn the world’s idea of power on its head. This year Emmanuel will use the season of Lent to facilitate conversation navigating how, together, we can turn the tables and build a world where justice, healing, and equity reign supreme.
Our new free pantry is up and functioning. Much like a free library, this is a small outreach to our community. Please bring canned goods, staples, etc. and place them on the shelves. Our neighbors will then be able to pick up what they need. We have a refrigerator for items that need to be kept temperature controlled. Thank you for your help!
