Fall is fast approaching as the weather turns a bit cooler and school starts up again. Please remember that there will be healing prayer offered after both services this Sunday. If you would like to pray with me, please come up to the altar rail following the service. When I stop in front of you, please feel free to share as much or as little about your prayer request as you’d like. We’ll then pray together and I’ll anoint your head with oil blessed by the bishop. Healing prayer will be offered following both services on the first Sunday of each month (though in October we’ll push it back a week).
Speaking of prayer offerings, Contemplative Prayer will begin on Tuesday, September 10 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel. We’ll explore different types of prayer including mindfulness, welcome prayer, centering prayer and lectio divina. Join us to slow down and listen to the “small quiet voice” found within each of us.
Adult Formation is offering a Saturday morning breakfast with Chaplain Mejchar on September 28. You may recall that Chaplain Mejchar’s talk on forgiveness was cancelled last Lent due to inclement weather. All are welcome to join us Saturday at 9 a.m. to hear the chaplain’s talk about Fox Lake Correctional Institution (FLCI) and the many programs being offered to the inmates. If you have any questions, please talk to Sally.
Switching topics entirely, your Vestry is exploring the possibility of online giving opportunities. We would partner with a third party company to provide security for people’s online transactions, but would then have the capacity for people to donate through our website. It would also give us the ability to take credit cards at Strawberry Fest, Fall Fest and the Book Sale. If you would be interested in giving online, please let me know.
The Book Sale is definitely happening in 2020, thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who stepped forward to help out and make it possible. Please tell people and start collecting books for this wonderful event.
Finally, mark your calendars, my Celebration of New Ministry with St. Mary’s will be on Wednesday, October 9 at 7 p.m. This is a chance for St. Mary’s to celebrate this new period of ministry with the whole diocese. The bishop will be there, as well as a number of clergy and lay people from around the diocese. I hope you will plan to be there too!
Prayers and blessings,
