From Mother Pippa

This Sunday is the Feast of the Assumption – the day that St. Mary ascended bodily into heaven (according to the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Churches and Oriental Orthodoxy) or the day that St. Mary fell asleep (Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches). While there are many feasts to St. Mary throughout the year, this is the one that we celebrate as our patronal (or patron’s) feast. Thank you to everyone who is bringing St. Mary’s brightness and cheer to fellow parishioners through the St. Mary’s Day gift exchange.

When we started offering online services, we chose to use Zoom and Facebook. However, we are now also offering services through youtube on the St. Mary’s Dousman youtube page:
Unlike facebook, you do not need a login for youtube, you can simply watch the service after they are posted. We have not worked out how to stream to youtube, so look for the service to be posted after 10 a.m. on Sundays.

We have a new link for Coffee Hour this week. To conform to Zoom security guidelines we added a “waiting room” for Coffee Hour, but sometimes you all get to Coffee Hour before I do. Using this new link you will enter straight into Coffee Hour and will not need to wait for me.

Mark your calendars, our Kick Off to the Program Year will be Sunday, September 13. We will have an instructed Eucharist – one where instead of a sermon we will pause to explain some of the history of the liturgy. Rather than talk about the whole liturgy, we will have normal service through the peace (though without a sermon) and then during the Liturgy of the Table we will pause from time to time to talk about the rites and rituals we use.

The following week, September 20, we will try our first drive in service. We will still have online service first, but after we will hold service outside in the parking lot. People can drive in and listen to the service over their radio. During Communion I will go from car to car with consecrated wafers (and lots and lots of hand sanitizer) and pass out communion through people’s car windows. It will be an experiment – if it works well we’ll try again, and if it doesn’t, we won’t. Either way, it will be a first for me, and I expect for many of you.

I hope you are enjoying the last month of summer 2020, it’s been quite a ride.

Prayers and Blessings,
Mother Pippa
