From Mother Pippa 10.22.2019

This upcoming Sunday is Pledge Sunday! Please bring your pledge card with you to turn in during the service. If you forget yours, we will have extras available. Plan to stay after the service for a celebratory Coffee Hour hosted by the Stewardship Team and the Vestry. Let’s come together to celebrate shining our light in the world with the abundance God has given us.

I want to thank everyone who filled out the Adult Ed survey, we have finally met and analyzed the results. St. Mary’s has a strong commitment to adult formation, and I know that as life changes, it can be a challenge to schedule classes at a time that works for people. But we are going to try anyway.

Of the 42 people who took the survey, 13 indicated that they would like to meet monthly on a weekday. Twenty-eight (28) expressed interest in a book group or a Bible Study. When Advent begins on December 1, we will enter into Lectionary Year A, which focuses on the Gospel of Matthew. I am proposing that we start a study of Matthew’s Gospel in January. The first meeting would focus on general information about Matthew and chapters 1-4. The next month we would discuss the first teaching discourse, or chapters 5-9. Subsequent months would focus on the other four teaching discourses (10-12; 13-17; 18-22; and 23-25). We would then finish with the Crucifixion and Resurrection (Matthew 26-28).

You could choose to read the chapters ahead of time if you like, but it would not be necessary to do so. Since we would be meeting in the evening, people would be welcome to bring their dinner if they’d like.

What I’d like to know from people interested in such a class is whether they’d prefer to meet on first Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. or second Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Please email me to let me know. Of course, please also feel free to get in touch if you have other ideas or suggestions.

Finally, I just wanted to share with you that we had 29 people who reported that they either love outdoor service or appreciate trying different things, so we will continue to offer outdoor service next summer. Thank you for your participation!

Prayers and Blessings,

Mother Pippa
