Happy St. Mary’s Day! Given our particular patron saint, we actually have a multitude of options for celebrating our saint (I know of at least nineteen feast days for Mary throughout the year). Some are about her identity (Holy Mother of God, Mother of the Church, Queen of Heaven, Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of the Rosary); some are about times in her life (the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Assumption, the birth of Mary, the Presentation, and the Immaculate Conception); still others mark her appearances around the world (Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Our Lady of Loreto, Our Lady of Guadalupe) and the other two are mark the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary and, the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We chose to celebrate the Assumption; the feast of Mary being lifted into heaven at the end of her life.
We are having a single service this Sunday, followed by a potluck. I hope you join us for worship at 9 a.m. and bring a dish to share for the potluck.
This Sunday we will also welcome Joe Nettesheim, the Director of Family Promise, to talk about the work they do. We are currently collecting school supplies and funds to help the children of Wisconsin’s Family Promise prepare for the upcoming school year. If you would like to donate money, please write “Family Promise” on the check memo line. We will take the donations to Family Promise on Monday, August 22.
Weather permitting, our last two services of Outdoor Church are coming up August 21 (at 8 a.m.) and August 28 (at 10 a.m.).
Finally, mark your calendars! Please join us for our Bonfire on Saturday, August 20 at 6 p.m. If you are interested in helping Joe Z make pudgy pies, please let me know. Saturday, August 27 we are joining the Dousman Rummage Sale and also selling cold drinks. Please sign up to sell your items or the beverages. Our Kick Off Sunday is September 11 and will mark the start of the program year.
Prayers and Blessings,
Mother Pippa
