This weekend is Dousman Derby Days! St. Mary’s is a part of the Dousman Chamber of Commerce, and I have greatly enjoyed learning more about all the wonderful events that happen in Dousman. This Saturday you can get food and beer starting at noon, and the frog jump runs from 1 to 4 p.m. The kids’ area will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. and there will be live music by Brew City Rockers from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. On Sunday the parade is at 11 a.m., the food and beer tent opens at noon, the frog jump goes from 1 to 4 p.m., as does the kids’ craft area. Starting at 1 p.m. there will be live music by Dan Lepien w. LeRoy Deuster. I hope you check it out!
Sunday is also a riverside service at 10 a.m. As long as the weather cooperates, we will plan to have 8 a.m. inside, and the 10 a.m. service down by the river. We will have folding chairs available, but encourage you to bring comfier lawn chairs.
Our next Adopt A Highway is coming up on Saturday, August 7. Please sign up to help keep our stretch of Highway DR clean and scenic. We’ll gather at the old Park N Ride that is south of Aurora Hospital at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 7.
The big news, of course, is that the Parish Hall was painted this week. It was very neat to watch the old paint chip off the building and leave behind bare wood, ready to be painted. After painting my screen porch and bathroom this summer, it was also really nice to have professionals paint the exterior of our building.
Sunny Turner’s funeral was finally scheduled. It will be Friday, August 13, with a gathering at 2 p.m. and the funeral at 3 p.m. All are welcome to come and remember Sunny.
Finally, if you attended service last Sunday at 10 a.m., you may have noticed that we were able to bring wine back to communion. At our indoor services communion will go as follows. First, Mother Pippa will bring around the bread. Next, we will have a tray with individual cups of wine. Once you have drunk your wine, please put it in the recycling bucket, held by the wine bearer. I do hope that we will return to common cup in the future, but would rather be extra cautious at the moment.
Prayers and blessings (it’s wonderful to be back),
Mother Pippa
