Happy Feast of the Ascension! Forty days after Easter (on Thursday), is the traditional day that Jesus ascended back into heaven after the Resurrection. We are moving the readings from Thursday to celebrate this feast on Sunday.

Ascension means that Pentecost is just around the corner (specifically, ten days after the Thursday feast). We will have one service on June 8 at 9 a.m. Community Life is hosting coffee hour, and we will also have our annual Bike Blessing following the single service. If it has wheels, I’m delighted to bless it: bikes, motorcycles, skates, roller blades, skateboards and walkers.

The sign-up sheets are posted for Strawberry Fest! Strawberry Fest is June 22 this year and there are a lot of ways to be involved:

  • Ahead of time: You can bake rum cake, make (strawberry) baked goods for the Bake Sale and donate items for the raffle basket. We also need sponsors to help underwrite the event. The last three years we have been able to fully donate our proceeds to St. Mary’s and the Haiti Partnership because of our generous sponsors.
  • Day before: We need people to help put up tents, arrange the Parish Hall, and post signs on June 21.
  • Day of: Sign-up sheets are posted for people to help sell tickets, serve food, manage parking and otherwise contribute to the day.

I’m curious, what’s your favorite hymn? Summer is fast approaching, which is an ideal time to write down your favorite hymn so it can be included in our summer worship. You can either email Carrie, or write down your hymn in the book in the Narthex. Thank you!

Finally, the Movie Committee is meeting June 15 at 9 a.m. They are planning to decide on a date and movie selection for our first Saturday Afternoon at the Movies. If you are interested, you are welcome to simply show up. Contact Carol for more information.

Prayers and Blessings,
Mother Pippa
