From Mother Pippa 5.25.2025

Happy Memorial Day! I hope you have a chance to gather and remember all who fought, sacrificed and struggled for justice, freedom and peace. This Sunday we will also celebrate our graduates and their accomplishments.

Sunday is the last Sunday in May, which means that it is your last chance to drop off bedspreads for Lad Lake. Thank you to everyone who has donated bedspreads and funds to help cover the beds of the Lad Lake students.

Do you recall 2020? I expect you do. But what you might not remember is that 2020 was St. Mary’s 150th Anniversary of being on the corner of Highways 18 & 67. Since we were unable to gather for a celebration, Carol McConnell and Kathy worked hard to put together a St. Mary’s Book. This book looks back over our 150 years as a parish, and includes information from parishioners past and present. The good news is that the book is finally being printed! We are working to get bids, but hopefully you will be able to get one this summer. Big thanks to Kathy for all her hard work, to Carol McConnell and to Lucia for editing! You are all amazing, thank you for persevering.

This week we will meet on Wednesday for our monthly Homebrewed Faith. Join us at Johnny Pizzas at 7 p.m. on May 28 to learn about Dietrich Bonhoeffer. According to Wikipedia, “Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor, neo-orthodox theologian and anti-Nazi dissident who was a key founding member of the Confessing Church. … Apart from his theological writings, Bonhoeffer was known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship, including vocal opposition to Nazi euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of Jews. He was arrested in April 1943 by the Gestapo. Bonhoeffer was accused of being associated with the plot to assassinate Hitler and was tried and hanged during the collapse of the Nazi regime.”

Finally, Pentecost is June 8. We will have one service at 9 a.m., followed by a special coffee hour, hosted by Community Life. We will also have a bike blessing following the service. If you read in another language, please sign up in the Parish Hall to read Acts 2:1-21 which describes the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church.

Prayers and Blessings,
Mother Pippa
