From Mother Pippa

The weather has turned towards fall, and St. Mary’s is selling pies! We have received a $5k bid to lay membrane over the seam between the bell tower and the rest of chapel roof. Currently, when it rains and the wind blows just so, we get water from seeping into the building. This money was not in our annual budget, so we are selling pies to raise the necessary funds. We are selling pumpkin pie ($20), apple pie ($25) and pecan pie ($25). Pie orders are due October 23, and can be made by emailing me, filling out an order form in the Narthex, or by purchasing the pies through our website. The pies will be available for pickup on Saturday, October 28. Please consider purchasing a pie or three (or just donating directly) so that we can cover the leaky bits of the roof before the winter sets in.

We are not only looking to care for our buildings, we also want to care for our members. Each year we like to send care packages to our college students around finals time, to let them know we are thinking of them, and to wish them luck in their studies. We currently have two students in college, Leah and Jacob. If you would like to bring items to send to our two college students, please drop them off on the table on the west side of the Parish Hall. We will send the packages out at the start of November.

As we seek to serve the people of St. Mary’s, we need your help – we are looking for two new Vestry members. Our eight-person team meets monthly on third Wednesdays for no more than two hours and helps guide and govern life at St. Mary’s. If you are interested in exploring what it means to serve on Vestry, please speak with me, a Vestry Member, or look at the half-sheet in the back of the Church.

If you are interested in seeing what plants are considered “prairie plants” you are invited to join Marit at the Waterville Field Station on Saturday, October 21 at 9 a.m. to gather some seeds to plant in our own prairie area. This will be a wonderful learning experience, as well as a fun way to plan what new plants we might see growing next Spring.

Thank you for a wonderful celebration last Sunday – we had great fun, warm fellowship and copious amounts of delicious food. Thank you so much for such a wonderful celebration.

Prayers and Blessings,
Mother Pippa
